Sales Tax is always applied to the following:
Dine-In Sales - Anything rung up on the POS that is for Dine-In will be taxed.
Carbonated Beverages
Bacon - When bacon is added to a sandwich it makes the entire sandwich taxable. If you are adding bacon to a sandwich when ringing on the POS, it must be done from the sandwich modifier screen as an extra, the POS then knows to tax the entire sandwich.
Sandwiches with any ingredient(s) that are heated (does not include bread) – bacon, melted cheese, hot chicken, etc.
Combos - If the Combo includes a hot food item or carbonated beverage, the combo is taxed.
Heated - there is a TAX button at the top of the main screen of the POS that you can use to add tax to an item that isn’t normally heated. The Cali Tuna would be an example – a customer asks for the tuna to be warmed and cheese melted – because it is going into the microwave to be heated it then makes that cold sandwich taxable.
***3rd Party Delivery – we have opted to tax everything that is purchased through 3rd party delivery systems. Their online ordering systems are not sophisticated enough to tax only certain items so to be safe we are collecting tax on all items. You are responsible for getting this tax to the BOE. Whatever you collect you must submit to the BOE*.
*BOE doesn’t care that you’ve collected too much tax as long as it comes back to them in the end.
